By witnessing the recent terrorist attacks in Paris, France, it is proved that no place is safe in the world from the deadliest terror threats. Sadly, India is facing such disasters for several decades. When Indian army is making terrorist from neighbor countries taste their own medicine, there are few anti-social elements responsible for several terrorist attacks in our country. But every time, our country fights back against the ill intention of terrorist groups. Here, we are going to discuss the 10 deadliest terrorist attacks that tried to shake the lively spirit of India and number of death tolls due to such events.
On November 26, 2008, 10 Fedayeen terrorists illegally invaded the city from sea and started firing innocent lives on Indian soil wherever and however possible. A series of firing and bomb blasts took place for around 4 days. Terrorists captured Hotel Oberoi Trident, Hotel Taj and Nariman House. They also targeted 5 other busiest landmarks – Cama Hospital, Leopold Café, CST Terminus, Metro Cinema and a lane around Times of India Office.
After a long battle, police and NSG commandos killed 9 terrorists and arrested an attacker Kasab who was one of them. This was India’s worst and most heart wrenching terrorist attacks. It was found that the attack was masterminded by Hafiz Saeed and conducted by Lashkar-E-Taiba (a Pakistan-based militant organization).
Gangsters and Terrorists have always targeted Mumbai. It is probably the darkest side of the metropolis. A series of bomb blasts took place to shake the nation. It was the deadliest terrorist attack in the history of India which killed more lives than that in 26/11. This time, the mastermind was underworld don, Dawood Ibrahim. He owns D-Company, an international syndicate of organized crime in Mumbai.
The bomb explosion took place in several locations, including Zaveri Bazaar, Mahim’s Fisherman colony, Plaza Cinema, Katha Bazaar, Century Bazaar, Sahar Airport, Hotel Sea Rock, Hotel Juhu Centaur, Air India Building, Bombay Stock Exchange, Worli, and Passport Office. These attacks were funded by several Pakistani and Indian smugglers and ISI (Intelligence agency in Pakistan) was also involved in these attacks. The terrorists were recruited and trained in UAE and Pakistan for such attacks.
Terrorists Ashraf Ali Mohammad Farooq and Murtaza Hafiz Yasin from Jais-e-Mohammad and Lashkar-E-Taiba terrorist groups entered the temple on 3 pm with hand grenades and automatic rifles. They started random firing on children and women. NSG commandos took those terrorists down by the night. Later, a letter was found from these terrorist, which mentioned that they took a revenge of Gujarat riots in 2002. It was labeled among the most threatening terrorist attacks in the country and it was first terrorist attack of its kind.
Three bomb blasts took place in Indian capital just 2 days before Diwali. Two bomb blasts took place in Paharganj and Sarojini Nagar and third bomb was exploded in a bus running in Govindpuri. Islamic Revolutionary Front (a Terrorist Organization based in Pakistan) was responsible for this serial blast. Due to the awareness of conductor and passengers who found the suspicious bag, the loss was minimized in Govindpuri. They started rescuing people when the bag was noticed by them. Since it was the busiest time period for Hindus, Dhanteras, the attack was very deadly in both high-street locations.
It was serial blast yet again in Mumbai where 7 bombs exploded in local trains in the vicinity of suburban stations of Mahim, Matunga Road, Bandra, Jogeshwari, Khar Road, Borivali and Bhayandar. After 1993, it was another biggest terrorist attack in Mumbai. Terrorists planted all bombs within a pressure cooker in first class coach. In investigation, it was revealed that the attacks were conducted by a forbidden terrorist organization, Indian Mujahideen.
For around 15 minutes, 9 corresponding bombs exploded in Jaipur. Authority found and defused 10th bomb. This incident was really very shocking for the nation because it was the first time when terrorists targeted Jaipur. It is one of the most sought-after tourist destinations in India. One of these bombs was exploded around an India’s iconic monument, Hawa Mahal. In the police investigations, it was found that several terrorist groups were involved in these attacks, such as Lashkar-e-Taiba, Student’s Islamic Movement of India, and Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami, which is based in Bangladesh. Al-Qaeda was also supposed to be involved in it.
The explosions took place in six busiest locations of the city – Manak Chowk Police Station, Bari Choupar, Tripolia Bazaar, Johari Bazaar, Kotwali and Choti Choupar. The terrorists planned the blasts so intelligently that they knew what would be the safer place when one blast takes place. Hence, when people started running for the safer place, the bomb exploded there.
This serial blast was another threatening terrorist attack in the county. This time, they targeted the capital city of Assam, Guwahati. They planned 18 bomb blasts in various locations. This series of bomb blast caused fatal death tolls. The blasts took place in Barpeta Road, Guwahati, Kokrajhar, and Bongaigaon. Some of the bombs were timed to explode when market was used to be crowded. When none of the terrorist groups admitted responsibility for such attacks, it was found that the NDFB (National Democratic Front of Bodoland) was involved in these bombings, according to some evidences.
12 bombs were exploded at 11 locations in the city and this explosion was headed by Al Ummah, an Islamist Fundamentalist Group. LK Advani, BJP Leader, was the target in this attack. He was in Coimbatore for election. Most of such blasts were planned at the areas dominated by Hindus so most of the victims were Hindus. The blast was aimed to ruin the commercial progress and peace in the city.
5 terrorists from, Jaish-e-Mohammad and Lashkar-e-Taiba invaded India’s most secure building, Parliament and attacked there. Luckily, the police killed all the terrorists before they enter the main building. But it was a terrifying truth itself that these culprits managed to enter the Parliament. They tried fake stickers of Home Ministry and Parliament for security breaches. They started firing the car on the convoy of India’s vice president. The battle lasted for around few hours till police killed all the five terrorists. When the attack happened, over 100 politicians, including LK Advani (ex Home Minister) and Harin Pathak (Minister of State for Defense) were in the building.
The terrorists from Jaish-e-Mohammed militants group attacked on the building of J&K State Legislative Assembly, Srinagar through 3 Fidayeen suicide bombers and a car bomb. In this attack, 3 fidayeen and 38 people were killed.
