Launched by former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Mayawati in 2007 when she came into power, the Ganga Expressway project involves the construction of 8-lane, access controlled highway which is 1047 km long and run across the Ganges River. The expressway will provide rapid fast connectivity by connecting Greater Noida to Ballia across the Western and Eastern boundaries of UP.
The upcoming expressway from Greater Noida to Ballia is also designed to have flood-control embankment. Floods are considered to be the leading cause of environmental and agricultural damage, deaths and diseases during monsoon season in India. The expressway is all set to provide connectivity across Uttar Pradesh by passing through Mirzapur, Varanasi, Pratapgarh, Allahabad, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Kannauj, Kanpur, Farrukhabad, Hardoi, Bulandshahar, Shahjahanpur, and Badaun. The construction work is all set to start when High Court gives clearance.
