1. Naming Ceremony

Sachin Tendulkar was named “Sachin” after the legendary Sachin D Burman. His father was a big fan of SD Burman and thus decided to name Sachin after him. We are sure SD Burman would consider it a great honor today to have a namesake like Sachin Tendulkar.

2. Initial Dream

Not many know this but Sachin Tendulkar tried out as a fast bowler in the initial stage of his career. He even gave a trial at the MRF Pace Academy in Chennai and was rejected in 1987 by Australian bowling great Dennis Lillee. Dennis Lillee instead told Sachin to concentrate on his batting as he was not quick enough to make an impact as a fast bowler.

3. Ambidextrous Talent

Not a lot of people know this but Sachin Tendulkar can bat and bowl with his right and left hand as effectively. Although he has not misused this talent in cricket matches, Sachin is always seen fooling around with his special talent during practice. One only wonders if he used this talent during games. His records would be even greater to surpass.

4. Man Of The Match Awards

Sachin Tendulkar has won the most Man of the Match awards in a losing team. His record of six awards is unmatched till date. Despite India ending up on the losing side, Sachin has always given his best and these awards prove that.

5. World Cup Records

Sachin Tendulkar is the only batsman in the world to score over 2,000 runs in World Cup matches. His tally of 2,278 runs in 45 matches is still unbeaten. He has also been the top scorer in a single World Cup tournament on two occasions – 673 runs in the 2003 World Cup held in South Africa and 523 runs in the 1996 World Cup held in the Asian Sub-Continent.
