Mahindra & Mahindra has just introduced a whole new “Kool Utility Vehicle” for the first time, which is titled as KUV100. This compact crossover is stunning and enjoys the competitive edge with its sub 4 m. length when it comes to tax benefits.
KUV100 is the second installment from Mahindra to boast monocoque built, followed by XUV500. The KUV is powered by the whole new mFalcon family of petrol and diesel engines. The diesel models feature 1198cc mFalcon D75 engine that provides 190 Nm at 1750 to 2250 rpm and 77 bhp at 3750 rpm. On the other side, the petrol models feature mFalcon 1198cc G80 engine which churns out 114 Nm at 3500 to 3600 rpm and 82 bhp at 5500 rpm.
Several times, the cars have been quoted as a tall hatchback, a compact SUV and a cost-effective crossover. This time, Mahindra has introduced a newcomer in the market which is also quoted as a compact crossover as its ex-showroom Delhi price starts from Rs. 4, 45,000 for petrol variant and Rs. 6, 79,000 for diesel variant.
Mahindra & Mahindra has launched Mahindra KUV100 at their head facility located in Chakan, Pune. KUV100 seems to be a bold step for the company which is known for utilitarian product and the brand opens up to a budget-friendly, wider audience. Mahindra seems to be kind enough by launching KUV100’s petrol model for around 4.5 Lakhs.
Mahindra has offered the most comfortable driving experience in its 6-seater cars and 5-seater KUV 100. The car is packed with amazing features, such as under-floor storage, cooled glove box, Follow Me home headlamps, cup holders, sunglass holder, rear and front seat armrest, mood lighting and puddle lamps. It features 6-speaker Infotainment system with Bluetooth, AUX, USB and audio controls mounted on steering. Some of the other desirable options are ORVM, power windows and central locking along with keyless entry.
It features amazing headroom, shoulder room and legroom space. It provides a cozy ride with its long-travel suspension also on uneven tracks. The diesel variant features Power and Eco modes and gets improved fuel efficiency with Micro Hybrid technology. It features the boot space of 243 liters that can be expanded up to 473 liters when you fold the rear seat. On both rear and front seat, KUV100 is blessed with 12V sockets.
With EBD and ABS standards in all variants, KUV100 provides a lot safer drive. Mahindra has passed a lot of safety checks and follows all the safety norms on all cars. It features dual airbags and the top trip features ISOFIX Child Seat Mount. It features auto hazard lights in panic braking and speed-detecting door locks.
It comes in four variants – K2, K6, K4 and K8. Except K2, all the other variants come with optional airbags. The car comes in 7 color options – Flamboyant Red, Fiery Orance, Dazzling Silver, Designer Grey, Pearl White and Midnight Black.
When it comes to exteriors, KUV100 looks simply unique and futuristic. The body looks pleasantly styled. It gets a compact SUV appeal with a lot of space in wheel well. The overall exterior seems to be perfect on most of the rough roads in India. The small wheels may not be suited well for styling of the crossover.
The KUV100 makes an entry with 5+1 seating and the space between the front passenger and driver’s seat has a foldable jump seat that can double as armrest with cup holders. The build quality and interior design is pretty decent. Buttons are chunky, and the quality of plastic trim is justifiable from a budget crossover.
On Mahindra KUV100, it seems to be pretty difficult to conclude with a definitive note. We had a limited time to understand but, if we are not wrong, the diesel variant is pretty much better to be driven. It is, undoubtedly, one of the most beautiful crossovers Mahindra has ever made. If you don’t want your child to sit on your lap, it has an extra seat between you and the driver. It seems that Mahindra launched KUV100 to give a tough competition to Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai Grand i10 and Maruti Dzire.
