In North Bengal, heavy rainfall lasted over 48 hours and affected over 58000 people in 15 villages in 3 districts of the state. The meteorological department states that it is the heaviest rainfall over the past two decades in North Bengal. Several rivers crossed the danger mark.
Former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu recently resigned from his post of MP in Rajya Sabha. At his CWG Residence, New Delhi, he addressed the media for the first time. According to him, the BJP asked him to stay away from Punjab and he was not ready for that because he has personal connection with the state. It was happened for the fourth time. There were speculations for him joining the Aam Aadmi Party.
Sushma Swaraj, External Affairs Minister, has slammed Nawaz Sharif, Pakistan PM and criticized his comment on making Kashmir the part of Pakistan. She stated that the dream of Pakistan on ruling Kashmir will never be fulfilled. She also suggested Pakistan not to question India for police and military. She also asked him to stop making violence in Kashmir.
ISRO has set a new record and reached the heights of success when they launched 20 satellites within 26 minutes in one go into orbit on June 22, 2016. It broke the record of launching 10 satellites. However, it is close to Russia’s 33 satellite launches in 2014 and 29 satellites in 2013 of NASA. Among these 20 satellites, 13 were from organizations and companies from the USA, 6 satellites from Canada, Indonesia and Germany and one (CArtosat-2) was from India for earth observation.
There is the news of relief for Salman Khan and his fans that Rajasthan High Court has released him from Blackbuck poaching case in 1998. In the Rajasthan court, his sister Alvira was also there. He was accused of killing and poaching a blackbuck along with seven others. For these incidents, he was crooked under Wildlife Act in 2006.
On January 4, 2016, around 29 km west from Imphal, Manipur, a 6.7 magnitude of earthquake strikes with very strong Mercalli intensity VII. Around 200 people were injured and 11 people were died and several buildings were collapsed. The earthquake was strong in Bangladesh. The earthquake strikes at 4:35 am on January 4.
On January 2, 2016, heavily-armed terrorists attacked Indian Air Force base located in Pathankot, Punjab, from Western Air Command. These gunmen were reportedly from a terrorist group, Jaish-e-Mohammad. Two security personnel and four attackers were killed in the battle initially. A security force member also died from injuries after an hour. The subsequent combing operation and firing lasted around 17 hours and three security personnel and 5 attackers died.
After being admitted to hospital, three more soldiers died with injuries. The death toll rose to 6 soldiers. On January 3, more gunshots were heard and IED explosion killed another security officer. On 4th January, the operation continued and 5th attacker was killed.
