In November 2000, she made her debut in tennis and won Eddie Herr International Junior Tennis Championships in 16 divisions when she was just 13 years old. She played the first WTA tournament of her at 2002 Pacific Life Open and won before losing it to Monica Seles. Because of restrictions on the number of professional events to be played, she went to keep playing on junior tournaments. Sharapova later claimed that the relationship came to an end and the couple was separated in early 2012. On the same year, she started dating Grigor Dimitrov, a Bulgarian tennis player. They confirmed their relationship after Madrid Open 2013. Their relationship was ended on July 2015.
