Saif Ali Khan Biography

Saif Ali KhanSajid Ali Khan Pataudi aka Ali Saif Ali Khan was born on August 16, 1970 to Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, former Indian cricket captain. He is the tenth Nawab of Pataudi as well as an Indian film producer and actor. He belongs to Tagore (Bengali) ancestry on his mom’s side. His paternal ancestors came to Indian subcontinent during the rule of Lodhi dynasty. Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi, his paternal grandfather, played for England cricket team. He was the 8th Nawab of Pataudi who played as captain for India after independence. Sajida Sultan, his paternal grandmother, was the Begum of Bhopal. Sher Ali Khan Pataudi, his great uncle, served in British Indian Army. He became Pakistan Army general after partition of the country.

He is the son of a famous film actress, Sharmila Tagore (Begum Ayesha Sultana). Before marriage, she converted to Islam. She became the head of Indian censorship board. Saif has two sisters and one of whom is Soha Ali Khan who is also an actress, married recently to actor Kunal Khemu. Khan completed his schooling in Lawrence School, Sanawar, HP and at Lockers Park School, Hertfordshire and Winchester College in England. He has become one of the most popular Indian film actors. He received several awards, including 6 Filmfare Awards and a National Film Award. He was also honored with Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2010.

He made his debut in industry with Parampara (1992) produced by Yash Chopra and later starred in Yeh Dillagi and Main Khiladi Tu Anari in 1994. Despite having several declines throughout the 90s, he finally raised his prominence with Hum Saath Saath Hain (1999) and Dil Chahta Hai (2001). He won the Filmfare Award for his work in Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003) as Best Supporting Actor. He was also awarded with National Film Award for being the Best Actor in Hum Tum (2004). His performance was well appraised by critics and audience in films like Race (2008) and Salaam Namaste (2005).

He was also starred in highest grossing films like Being Cyrus (2006), Parineeta (2005) and Omkara (2006). He started his own production house, Illuminati Films and released its first film, Love Aaj Kal.

In 2014, he was casted in Sajid Khan’s Humshakals along with Ram Kapoor, Ritiesh Deshmukh, Esha Gupta and Bipasha Basu. The film got poor reviews. His next release was Happy Ending, from his home production. Both of the films were failed at box office. In 2015, he starred in Kabir Khan’s Phantom which got mixed reviews.

Along with being an actor, he is a stage performer too. He married Amrita Singh in October 1991 and they have two children – a son born in 2001 and a daughter born in 1993. After 13 years of marriage, the couple divorced in the year 2004. The children are in mother’s custody.

After divorce, he was dating a Swiss model, Rosa Catalano who is based in Italy. He met her in Kenya. Later on, they decided to marry but they broke up. On February 18, 2007, he had chest pain when he was rehearsing for his stage performance on Stardust Awards and admitted to Lilawati Hospital.

Since October 2007, he had been dating Kareena Kapoor, an Indian film actress. He publicly revealed his relationship in October 2009. In October 2012, Kareena and Saif got married.

On September 22, 2011, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, his father, died. In order to fulfill the sentiments of residents in Pataudi village, Haryana, a Pagri Ceremony was organized and he became the 10th Nawab of Pataudi. Since 1971, the title of prince didn’t have any official recognition. The chief guest of Pagri ceremony was Haryana’s Chief Minister.
