Sonam KapoorBorn on June 9, 1985, Sonam Kapoor is the daughter of Anil Kapoor, a Bollywood film actor. She is one of the top-paid actresses in Bollywood. She is a well-known fashionista and has got nominations for 4 Filmfare Awards.  She studied arts and theatre at the United World College, Singapore and worked with Sanjay Leela Bhansali in directing Black, a 2005 drama film.  In 2007, she made her entry in Bollywood with romantic drama, Saawariya, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. She got nominated for Best Female Debut in Filmfare Awards for Saawaria, despite its failure. Later, she starred opposite Abhishek Bachchan in Delhi 6 (2009). But she got her first commercial success with I Hate Love Stories (2010), a romantic comedy.

She appeared in several commercial failure but she got nominated for Best Actress in Filmfare Awards for drama Raanjhanaa (2013), also starring Dhanush. She also had a small role in a commercially successful and critically acclaimed Farhan Akhtar starrer, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013). She played lead role in rom-com, Khoobsurat (2014). She has been appreciated for her work in 2015 melodrama, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, one of the top-grossing films of 2015.

She was born in a well-known suburb, Chembur of Mumbai on June 9, 1985. She is the daughter of producer and actor, Anil Kapoor, who also founded Anil Kapoor Films Company, and a designer and former model, Sunita. When she was just 1 month old, family relocated to Juhu. She has two siblings – brother Harshvardhan and producer Rhea Kapoor. Her paternal grandfather was Surinder Kapoor, late filmmaker. She is the niece of actor Sanjay Kapoor, and producer Boney Kapoor and Sridevi. Her paternal cousins are Mohit Marwah and actor Arjun Kapor. She is close to her maternal grand mom.

She got her schooling in Arya Vidya Mandir in Juhu. She was carefree and naughty in childhood and she also bullied boys by beating and pushing them at school. She was a sports-freak in her school life and she played basketball and rugby. She is well-trained in classical music, Kathak and Latin dance. She is pretty religious. When she was 15 years old, she was a waitress which was her first job. She was overweight then. She had a lot of issues with her weight. She had bad skin and she was unhealthy. She started an initiative to improve awareness of diabetes. She was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian disease and insulin resistance.

She was born in the family of actors and appeared in media at a very tender age. She is also known for her unique style and dressing sense in media. She is outspoken by the media and also criticized for her ethnic dresses. Her remarks sometimes brought her into limelight and criticism. She also confessed that she is so straightforward that her honest opinions create problems for her.  Indeed, she is among the most popular Bollywood actresses, despite of having only a few box-office successes. Despite having an urban image, she still looks beautiful in the role of traditional girl.

She is known as the style icon in Indian media and she is known to be one of the top-paid actresses and most fashionable Indian celebrities. Since 2009, she has a Facebook page and a Twitter account and she is one of those celebrities who remain active in social media.  She appeared on one of the “100 Most Influential Women on Twitter” by The Huffington Post in 2015.  She was one of the first actresses in 2009 who appeared on a list of film newcomers “Next Generation: Asia Class” in The Hollywood Reporter.
