The Special Tourist Trains of Luxury Travel by Indian Railways

There is nothing better than luxury trains in India to explore the country’s diversity at its best. From Kashmir to Kanyakumari, India is offering the rich culture, diversity, and tradition that can be experienced by taking luxury trains. Indian railway is operating several special luxury trains to serve different circuits across India and give lifetime experience of actual Indian royalty.

1. Palace on Wheels

In association with Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation, Indian Railways has launched this luxury train to promote Rajasthan tourism. It is the fourth best luxury cruise train in the world. It features 14 salons titled after Rajasthan’s famous provinces and two restaurants – Maharani Restaurant and Maharaja Restaurant. It has 14 coaches named after the last Rajput states with the interiors and aesthetics of royal past. Each coach contains 4 cabins with spa, exotic bar, Wi-Fi and Live TV.

2. The Golden Chariot

It is yet another luxury tourist train that connects a lot of well-known tourist spots in Goa and Karnataka. It has 19 coaches that are colored gold and purple with a lounge bar, two restaurants, gym and spa, and conference room. This lavish wagon has satellite antennae to provide Live TV and onboard internet via USB stick.

3. Maharajas Express

It is a joint venture project from IRCTC. The Maharajas Express is world’s most expensive luxury train. It is running on five different circuits covering around 12 destinations across Central India and North West, especially cornered on Rajasthan. It runs from October to April. It is well equipped with world-class amenities, such as bar, large dining, generator, lounge, direct dial phone, LCD TVs, individual temperature controls, internet, and in-suite bathroom. It also has a lounge known as Rajah Club and two dining cars, private bar and integrated bar car.

4. Royal Rajasthan on Wheels

The RTDC has introduced the Royal Rajasthan on Wheels which is well equipped with all the modern facilities like restaurants, super deluxe suites, bar, fitness centre, board room, salons, spa, and Wi-Fi. Here, you will experience the leisure travel and royal sojourn while traveling through the lands of Rajputana. The Royal Rajasthan on Wheels provides sheer comfort and opulence. The heritage luxury wagon is offering the rich historical pleasure to make your memories linger.

As the wheels rolling down the mighty tracks and whistles of the train blows, you will experience the true and rich diversity of Rajasthan which is beautifully portrayed by fascinating architecture, vivid festivals, high-end adventure, sparkling sports, age old tradition and centuries-old craft. The Royal Rajasthan on Wheels is known to be the joint venture project from the Government of India, Ministry of Railways, and Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation Ltd, in support from the Development of Tourism (Government of India). The luxurious variant of Palace on Wheels covers various circuits.

It has two Bar Lounges with dining. Recently, the operator has added a Spa Salon carriage. The Bar Lounges has crystal work which is truly a sight to behold.

5. Deccan Odyssey

This special luxury train is run by the joint venture of Ministry of Railways, Government of India and Maharashtra Government. Along with being a luxury train touching several tourist spots, the train is an absolute 5-star hotel running on wheels. This flagship express train contains 10 air-conditioned Deluxe cabins and each cabin has the 4 twin-bedded chambers combined and two air conditioned Presidential Suite saloons and each saloon has the combination of bedroom and living room. The saloons have intercom facility, player, channel music, hot and cold running water, attached toilets, wall-to-wall carpeting and shower.
