In the history of India, thousands of soldiers sacrificed their lives on Indian soil to protect our motherland while fighting in the war zone and all of them deserve equal respect from every citizen of the country. You must notice that we are not undermining someone’s courage and sacrifice in this post.
In this article, we are listing some of the real heroes who are quite unheard or forgotten by us. It’s a tribute to our real stars.
He comes from 17 Jat Regiment in Indian Army. He was assigned in a group to capture Pimple II, a key mountain top, which was occupied by infiltrators of Pakistan in 1999 Kargil War. With his group, Captain Nayyar fought against them without any air support, with his team. He fought till his last breath to cover the key mountain peak. At last he was hit by an explosive. In the movie LOC Kargil directed by J.P Dutta, Captain Nayyar’s role was played by Saif Ali Khan.

He came from 16 Maratha Light Infantry and he was posted in Nagaland on 1993. Naga rebels ambushed his convoy on December 20 that year. He took down the rebels and broke the ambush with his extraordinary courage. However, he sacrificed his life while protecting the army. His amazing courage awarded him with Kirti Chakra and Ashok Chakra. He became the only Indian hero who has both valuable awards.
He came from the UN’s group who was assigned to keep the country from Katangese rebels. These rebels were wrecking the destruction and he was involved in an operation which completely dampened the foes. He died at an unknown place at the age of 26. But Indian government recognized his courage and awarded him with Param Vir Chakra for what he did for the country. His role in the Congo War 1961 awarded him with the most astonishing wartime military honor of India.

Border, the most loved war film of J.P. Dutta, was based on Laungewala battle in 1971 and its dark nights on December 4 and 5. Brigadier Chandpuri led the squad of 124 Indian Army soldiers and 23 Punjab Regiment officers against the ambush of Pakistan. Later, he was honored with Mahavir Chakra for hi valor and administration by the Indian government. In Border, Actor Sunny Deol played the character of Brigadier Kuldip Singh very well.
He is known to be the legend of Indian army and he has a very inspiring story for us. He came from the Garhwal Rifles’ 4th Battalion in Indo-China War 1962. Because of heavy circumstances and casualty, the company had orders to retreat from the position. However, Jaswant insisted to fight back the Chinese enemy. Finally, he was left alone to fight off the foes and all the soldiers with him were retreated. His brave act will be remembered for centuries. Two Monpa tribal girls supported him, Nura and Sela.
They planted the weapons at different points and maintained the firing in a volume which tricked the enemies to believe that they were under attack from a huge battalion. It went on for around 3 days to frustrate the Chinese. Finally they caught a man supplying ration to the soldier. Jaswant shot himself by knowing that they would capture him soon. Chinese army was very angry to know that a lone survivor was fighting them off all the time. So, they cut his head off and carried back to their country. What happened with those brave girls is still not known.

He is yet another champion of Kargil War 1999 known to recover the Peak 5140 at the altitude of over 17000 ft. over the enemies. He was well aware of the main threat of the crest and he has done the challenging mission to recover back the peak. The counterattack of the enemy cut short his life. In the film LOC Kargil, his role was played by Abhishek Bachchan.
He let his troops over the steep ridge in Burma during World War II and captured huge trenches irrespective of having several injuries. On Independence in 1947, he was fighting against Pakistan in first war for India. He was critically injured in Uri in the same year. Then his body was thrown and paraded into a dump in Pakistan. Unfortunately, army couldn’t recover his body. He got British Victoria Cross, the most prestigious and most valuable gallantry award.

He was awarded with Mahavir Chakra and he was part of 1965 war at the Chawinda battle against Pakistan where he destroyed the enemy’s first armored division. He found a hidden landscape which was loaded with mines in 1971. He pushed ahead and refuted the counter-assault of Pakistan in the battles of Dahira and Chakra. He was the man behind Operation Blue Star in 1984 to evict the militants hidden in the Amritsar’s Golden Temple.
His last words were “Don’t worry, they will be mine” for hi men when he was attacked by bullets while fighting the terrorists in Taj Hotel in 2008. He was the leader in Black Tornado Operation during 26/11 Mumbai attacks. In Indian Army, he was Major serving in NSG (National Security Guards). When a commando got under attack, he made all the arrangements for his successful evacuation during the operation and he was chasing the terrorists on his own. He got critically injured and bleeds to death during the chase.

The INS Khukri captain, Mahendra Nath Mulla sacrificed his life when torpedoes hit his ship which was firing from the submarine of enemy during the war in 1971. He gave his life-saving jacket away to a sailor and fought to save maximum number of lives before he went with his ship down. A memorial in his honor with a model of INS Khukri was also planted in Diu.
